# How do I update my router’s firmware?

Firmware is the software that controls your router, and manufacturers regularly release updates to fix bugs, patch security vulnerabilities, and improve performance. AKA, keeps your home Wi-Fi running smoothly so you can stream, surf, and work in peace. ✌️

The firmware for the Adtran 841 or oxio Wi-Fi pods is **updated automatically** overnight when the network isn't busy. While they **cannot be updated manually**, you can check the firmware version to confirm everything is up to date.

1. **Open the oxio Wi-Fi app** on your smartphone device.
2. Tap on **Network** and scroll down to the **Extenders** section of the Connectivity tab.
3. Tap on any of your pods and then the **View details** button.
4. Your **current firmware version will be displayed** along with the serial number, MAC address, and IP.

1. **Open the eero app** on your smartphone device.
2. Navigate to **Settings** and tap **Software Updates**.
3. Tap **Install Now**.

||| ⚠️ This will cause your network to reset briefly, so make sure it’s a good time for you when you don’t have any important meetings or streaming binges on the go!

You’ve got better things to do than checking for firmware updates all the time. 
Turn on notifications from your settings to stay on top of it.

1. **Open the eero app** on your smartphone device.
2. Navigate to **Settings** and tap **Notifications**.
3. Toggle the slider next to Software Updates to **On**.
4. Tap the back button on the top right of your screen to save your settings.
