Can I activate WPS on my router?
What is WPS?
WPS stands for Wi-Fi Protected Setup, meaning that devices synchronize themselves together through the simple press of a button as long as they have access to the same Wi-Fi network. Many printers offer this option.
Can I activate WPS?
Activating the WPS feature on your router depends on the model you have.
WPS is not available on:
- eero 6 routers
- oxio WiFi pods
These newer models don’t offer WPS due to the known security risks associated with the feature.
For customers with older SmartRG routers, activating WPS is possible by following the steps listed below.
How to activate WPS on a SmartRG router.
All SmartRG routers come with WPS disabled by default for security purposes. Steps for getting WPS setup will differ slightly based on the model you have.
If you have the SR400ac router…
- Contact our Customer Care to request activation of WPS on your router.
- Once they’ve confirmed it’s active, hold the WPS button located on the left side of your router for 7-10 seconds.
- The WPS light will start blinking. You can then press the WPS button on the device you wish to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
If you have the SR905acv, SR516ac or SR616ac router…
- Contact our Customer Care to request activation of WPS on your router.
- Once they’ve confirmed it’s active, hold the WPS button for either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz network located on the left side of your router for 7-10 seconds.
- The WPS light will start blinking. You can then press the WPS button on the device you wish to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
I accidentally disabled one of my router’s frequencies.
To ACTIVATE a Wi-Fi frequency, press the WiFi button on your SmartRG router briefly (1-2 seconds). To DEACTIVATE a WiFi frequency, press the same Wi-Fi button for 4-6 seconds.
For SR905acv, SR516ac and SR616ac routers, the same steps can be done but for the appropriate 2.4GHz or 5GHz button.
