Can I use my own modem or router with oxio internet?
Can I use my own modem with oxio internet?
No, we don’t support the use of personal modems or ones provided by other home internet providers.
The modems we provide are CPE vendor certified and are pre-configured for oxio service.
Can I use my own router with oxio internet?
Yes, you can use own router as your gateway router (main router) or as a range extender.
If using as your gateway router, simply connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of your router and follow its provided instructions for setup. Internet access can be configured via DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).
There is no discount for using your own equipment. An oxio router is included with all plans and equipment packages.
How do I use my own router as a range extender?
You can expand your coverage by using your own router (or an oxio-provided router) as an access point. Follow these steps to ensure a stable connection:
- Connect: Use an Ethernet cable to link your router's WAN/LAN port to a LAN port on the oxio gateway router.
- Configure: Disable the DHCP functionality on your personal router. Keeping DHCP active on both devices will cause IP conflicts and frequent disconnections.
- Optimize: Give your Wi-Fi network a unique name—do not use the same name as the oxio network.
- Clean up: Only connect your devices to your personal network. If they previously used the "oxio-xxxx" network, "forget" that network in your device settings to prevent them from switching back.
How does my oxio router handle IP addresses?
Your oxio router acts as a bridge between your home and the internet. It uses DHCP to automatically claim a unique Public IP address from oxio’s network.
To manage your home devices, the router uses Network Address Translation (NAT). This allows it to assign unique Private IP addresses to every phone, laptop, and smart device in your house while sharing that single Public IP.

This setup provides three key advantages:
- Security: The router acts as a protective shield, hiding your individual devices from the direct public internet.
- Privacy: Only your router’s IP address is visible to websites and services, keeping your internal network structure anonymous.
- Efficiency: It allows dozens of devices to connect to the internet simultaneously using only one public address.
